What is Financial
Success?
“The
way that I see financial success is the ability to accept
pain.”
This may sound strange to most people but this is how I experience
financial success.
It is the ability to make sacrifices, the ability to take the
high road when the low road is a lot easier and more inviting.
It is
the ability to take responsibility and to do the things that average
and unsuccessful people would never do.
My definition of
success
My definition of success was formed in 1979 while I was doing
my
military training. During that time I read a verse in a book that had a
massive impact on my life, and this verse became part of my daily
declarations.
This verse goes as follows:
“I am
not on this earth
by chance. I am here for a purpose and that purpose is not to shrink
into a grain of sand but to grow into a mountain. Henceforth I will
strain my potential until it cries for mercy”. (Og
Mandino - The Greatest Secret in the World)
In order to become a successful Wealth Creator
in the holistic sense I have described, you will have to put in a lot
more effort than the average person.
To be successful you will be
prepared to walk the extra mile, to do more than what is expected of
you, to manage your time and your finances.
In short, you must manage your life and take responsibility.
There is simply no alternative if you want to be on the right side of
the statistics – and escape the reality of how most people
retire. Hand over responsibility for your future and your security to
someone else (employer, government, a financial institution) and you
can be sure you will get the worst of the deal.
Why don’t
more people take responsibility?
• Because we’re not taught to.
• Because we’re intimidated and convinced
to hand the whole issue over (with relief) to an
‘expert’.
• Because we’re naturally inclined to take
the easy way out – the low road.
• Because society brainwashes us into trusting the
system
that was not set up to give us financial freedom but to make sure our
hard work makes others rich!
• Because we’re not focused enough, not
productive enough.
• Because we’re conditioned to expect the
good things
in life to come easily and shy away from sacrifice of our time and
effort.
• Because bad experiences at school turn many of us
against
learning – thinking it’s a boring slog, when
it’s not.
• Because human beings prefer not to change and some
of them
like it so much they’d rather do without their dreams than
get
out of their comfort zones.
It is not easy to become successful. You will have to make a lot of
sacrifices. You will take a lot of responsibility and you will hold
yourself accountable for your actions.
You will have to learn and keep on learning for the rest of your life.
If you want to make money you must learn
to invest
money first.
Success is a never-ending journey. The moment that you think you are
successful or that you have arrived, you are setting yourself up for
failure.
What does financial
success
mean to you?
Is success purely financial riches? Or is it a balanced life?
Success to me is to have balance. If I was successful financially but a
failure as a husband or a father, in my mind I would not be a success.
So, in order to experience balanced success I must plan my life.
More shocking news
Most people set up their life to fail, even before they start!
They make it impossible to achieve financial success. They simply set their
standards too high without realistic plans in place for their
attainment.
So they live in a state of unhappiness. No matter what they
do they will never feel successful because in their own minds, they
have failed.
I want to live in a state of happiness, so I have set up my life so as
to accomplish and reach my targets and in my book learn
to invest money I will show you a guaranteed "financial success system"
that works.
Life is difficult enough as it is, so I have decided to make life easy
for myself!
Once you are successful you can build on your successes.
Success breeds
success.
You can build a big success on a small beginning, but very little that
is positive can be built on a failure. The best thing about it failure
to learn from it and move on.
Perhaps the lesson is that your
expectations were unrealistic. That’s a valuable lesson. So
next
time, set a smaller goal and build on that success. (Why don t you read
some of the financial
success stories on
my websites)
This is one of the reasons I caution my students not to rush ahead too
quickly with the Wealth
Creators Mentoring Program.
Make it easy for yourself to be successful. Start with a small step.
Then add another. In the end, a lot of small steps will help you to
reach your final destination.
How do you take the
first small step?
A successful person is in control of his or her own lifestyle. The
trick to good lifestyle management is the ability to manage your time
and money.
We all have the same number of hours a day, but what we do
with these hours is up to each individual. Once you have learned good
time management you will be absolutely amazed at just how much time you
used to fritter away, even as you convinced yourself that you were
working very hard!
The Formula For Riches
helps me to concentrate on those
things that are important to me. It also helps me to focus. This makes
it easier for me to be successful. The Formula For Riches is a "financial success system"
in its own right.
What can I do to
focus on my journey?
The world is full of information. In fact, it is overloaded.
By paying
attention to a lot of that unsolicited information, I am helping
someone else meet their goals! While my own slip away and time just
passes with a great sense of being busy, run off my feet, and in a
hurry – but very little sense of achieving my goals and
celebrating my success.
The world is flooded with information and the
opportunity for us as Wealth Creators is to find the information that
is of value to us without wasting time and effort. There is also a
business opportunity there – think about it!
How do I stay focused?
I constantly ask myself questions like:
”This story/event/piece
of news/magazine/email/advert/ billboard/sms/phone message in
front of me,
demanding my attention - will it help me to achieve any of my goals or
is will it just waste my time and lower my productivity?”
“Will I achieve my goals for the day/week/month/year/my whole
lifetime faster or slower if I give this my time?”
”What is
the single most important thing that I can do right now?”
”How can
I do it and enjoy it?”
”What
will help me to achieve my goals with greater ease and more
joy?”
Never underestimate the importance of these last two points!
Enjoyment makes it a pleasure; pleasure reduces stress; stress saps
energy and motivation and brings you down. Boost your energy by simply
finding ways to enjoy your working day!
Be careful not to
gather useless information!
Personally I do not read newspapers and I do not watch or listen to the
news.
To me that is a lot of useless information and a way to waste
valuable time.
There is a lot of sad and bad news in the world but I
personally can’t do anything to stop or change any of that.
So it
is a waste of my time to listen to bad news and it puts me in an
unhappy frame of mind.
Is wealth a measure
of success?
To be a Wealth Creator is to have life in abundance. If you are on my
Wealth Creators Mentoring Course you will know not to confuse financial
wealth with success. I recently read this story in "Business and Accounting
Ethics" that says it all.
HOW DO YOU MEASURE
SUCCESS?
A popular story recounts a meeting that took place at the Edgewater
Beach Hotel in Chicago in 1923. Attending this meeting were nine of the
richest men in the world at that time:
(1) Charles Schwab, President of the world's largest independent steel
company;
(2) Samuel Insull, President of the world's largest utility company;
(3) Howard Hopson, President of the largest gas firm;
(4) Arthur Cutten, the greatest wheat speculator;
(5) Richard Whitney, President of the New York Stock Exchange;
(6) Albert Fall, member of the President's Cabinet;
(7) Leon Frazier, President of the Bank of International Settlements;
(8) Jessie Livermore, the greatest speculator in the Stock Market; and
(9) Ivar Kreuger, head of the company with the most widely distributed
securities in the world.
Twenty-five years
later,
(1) Charles Schwab had died in bankruptcy, having lived on borrowed
money for five years before his death.
(2) Samuel Insull had died virtually penniless after spending some time
as a fugitive from justice.
(3) Howard Hopson was insane.
(4) Arthur Cutten died overseas, broke.
(5) Richard Whitney had spent time in Sing-Sing.
(6) Albert Fall was released from prison so he could die at home.
(7) Leon Fraizer, (8) Jessie Livermore, and (9) Ivar Kreuger each died
by suicide.
Measured by financial wealth and power these men achieved success, at
least temporarily.
Making a lot of money may be an acceptable goal, but money most
assuredly does not guarantee a truly successful life and I will
strongly advise you to apply the Formula For Riches n your life to
become a true Wealth Creator and not just to amass financial wealth.
Many people think of fame and fortune when they measure success, but as
Wealth Creators we know better.
However, at some point in life, most people come to realize that inner
peace and soul-deep satisfaction come not from fame and fortune, but
having lived a life based on integrity and noble character. President
Lincoln put it this way: “Honor is better than
honors.”
Proverbs 22:1: "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be
esteemed is better than silver or gold." In the final analysis, living
an honorable life really is more satisfying than fame and fortune.
The question then remains - How do you measure success?
Is there
a financial success course
where anyone can learn to become a financial success?
A good place to start is to read the e-book : Learn to invest money by
applying the Formula For Riches.
The next step will be to to join our Wealth Creators Mentoring Course
